Frequently Asked Questions
How many MCA seats are available through NIMCET?
NIMCET 2026 offered around 1,300 MCA seats across 11 participating NITs plus IIIT Bhopal and IIIT Vadodara. The exact seat matrix varies each year based on the participating institutes and their intake capacity — always check the official seat matrix published for the current year.
Is there any age limit to appear for NIMCET?
No, there is no upper age limit to appear for NIMCET. Any candidate fulfilling the educational eligibility criteria can apply.
Can a B.Tech. graduate apply for NIMCET?
Yes, B.E./B.Tech. graduates with Mathematics as a subject in their qualifying degree and a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD) are eligible to apply for NIMCET.
What is the qualifying/cutoff score for NIMCET?
For NIMCET 2026, candidates needed a minimum of 240/480 (50%) to qualify in the General, OBC-NCL, or EWS category; 216/480 (45%) for SC/ST; and 192/480 (40%) for PwD candidates. Additionally, your Mathematics section score must be positive — a zero or negative Mathematics score disqualifies you even if your total crosses the overall cutoff. Actual closing ranks for specific institutes (like NIT Tiruchirappalli, historically the most competitive) depend on the year's applicant pool and vary each counselling round.
How does NIMCET counselling work after the result?
Counselling is conducted centrally online at nimcet.admissions.nic.in in multiple rounds. Candidates register separately from the exam application, pay a non-refundable counselling fee (₹1,000 for the 2026 cycle), and fill in institute/programme preferences in order. Seat allotment happens in rounds based on rank and preferences; after each allotment, candidates must complete physical reporting and document verification at the allotted institute within the specified window to confirm admission.
